For those of you who aren't familiar with Argyle Wednesday, here's the backstory. I have always liked argyle. During student teaching, another teacher brought to my attention that I wore argyle everyday for an entire week. Who knew? After student teaching, I traveled to Paris and found argyle everywhere! Knowing that America usually copies European trends (6-12 months later) I knew that argyle would be big the following year. Indeed it was. During my first year of teaching (3rd grade) argyle was everywhere. I started wearing argyle regularily. A student in my class pointed out that I wear argyle A LOT! She suggested that maybe I pick one day a week to wear argyle instead of wearing it multiple times a week. My 3rd graders then came up with the the idea of Argyle Wednesdays mainly for me. Then on my birthday that year Mrs. Streif got my students to wear argyle along with 25+ staff members. It has since been a long standing tradition at Glendale to wear argyle on Wednesdays. Last year, we had as many as 32 staff members in argyle on Wednesdays and as many as 14 students from our class. I've even had parents who regularly volunteer on Wednesday wear argyle when they come in (not a requirements). Last year, I was presented with head-to-toe footy argyle pajamas (which I went crazy over). Last year for my birthday students even created their own argyle shirts (see below). Argyle has become my trade mark. Behind my desk you will see an argyle border, argyle magnets, argyle mousepad and an argyle water bottle. Last year in May, I officially ended Argyle Wednesday (thinking argyle would not be popular again this fall). However, if you've been shopping lately you will find it's more popular than ever. I have had numerous requests from teachers and past students to bring back Argyle Wednesday. This is just something fun and is completely optional for students and staff. I of course will pull out my many argyle shirts and sweaters each and every Wednesday!
