Presenting Our Blog to Teachers Across the Metro

I am very excited to announce that I been asked to present at the TIES 2011 Education Technology Conference in December. This is an annual conference that focuses on new ways to infuse technology into the classroom. I will be presenting the concept of my blog for parent communication (last year I presented on Smartboards and Story Based Interventions). I started this blog back in December as a one-stop shop for parents. I have gotten a lot of great feedback from parents both this year and last year. I have found it's a great medium for keeping you informed of homework, school news/events and a unique way to showcase what we are doing in class. Please consider posting a comment below about what you like about the blog. I may use these comments as part of my presentation. You are welcome to be anonymous. If you need directions on how to comments (see the above tab).

  1. The Blog was wonderful last year. A "One Stop Shop" of information.

  2. I love the blog for referencing updates which happened throughout the week, what is coming up, links, and forms. It has been a great 1-stop shop for keeping me updated on what is happening in my child's classroom. My child loved the opportunity to use the blog to communicate with classmates and Mr. Deris, particularly during the vocabulary math challenge.

  3. We really liked the Blog last year. It was a great place to see the week at a glance. It is also a good way to update parents quickly - without having to send several emails or without having to save all info for a weekly newsletter.
One of my favorite things was the comments - especially at the end of the year when the kids were sharing their best memories of the school year.

  4. I love the blog! It helps me to keep up with what's going on in the classroom, without worrying that something got lost on the way home from school. I also really enjoy the videos and pictures on the blog as well - all the smiling faces make my day!

  5. The blog is great! It is an excellent source of everything that is happening with your child at school. The kids and parents love to see the videos and pictures and find them very cool! As a parent I love to see all the information at one location.

  6. The blog is a time saver for our busy family. We can organize our daughter's week of assignments, check out the meals in the cafeteria and figure out if she needs to wear her gym shoes, all in one location.

  7. I feel the blog allows us as parents to be more connected to our child's education. I appreciate that everything is so simple to find and I can look up deadlines/schedules online versus trying to find the calendar or a particular flyer in a pile of paperwork.

  8. I enjoyed it when you would put up contests and the winners would get a prize.

  9. My favorite thing about the blog is the "This Week" portion on the right side. It is such an efficient way look at what is going on that day and week(s). It covers everything! I also love when Mr. Deris posts a vote (i.e. Do you like Mr. Richardson better with or without a shaved head?). That is pure entertainment, but it gets the kids and parents to visit the blog. It's not all business...it's fun too!

  12. We love the blog at our house too! Just a quick look to the right and there are reminders for each day of the week. My kids both like to go to the suggested educational game sites and online story sites. It's also great to see videos and pics of activities the students have done in class. Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained!
