Ask Your Child... (answers added)

Ask your child the following questions from today's lesson:
1. Who were the eggs or what did the eggs represent?
2. What did Mr. Deris do with the eggs from beginning to end?
3. What lesson do you think Mr. Deris was trying to teach you with these eggs?

Parents - I will recap this lesson on Friday, but I wanted to give each family time to have a discussion about the lesson beforehand.

Answers:
This week, I presented 6 dyed eggs to the students. We talked about how these 6 eggs are friends. We talked about how each are different, much like each of the students in class we are different and that one is is exactly the same. I then asked students to think about if I were to break these eggs, what color would they be on the inside. Many students at first thought the color would match the shell. As we started cracking the eggs, students saw that it didn't matter what color the shell was, that their yolk (or their insides) were the same. We then talked about how this model works in real life. We also brought this back to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech I Have A Dream and talked about what the sentence "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character."
