MAP Testing September 14 and 21

Next week, we will begin our first round of MAP testing for grades 2-5 at Glendale. We will have 3 rounds of testing in 2nd grade (once in the fall, once in the winter and once in the spring). Each round will consist of 2 computerized tests at separate times (math and reading).

Our class is scheduled to take the MAP Math Test on Friday, September 14 from 10:00-11:00.

Our class is scheduled to take the MAP Reading Test on Friday, September 21 from 10:00-11:00.

What is the MAP Test?
NWEA’s computerized tests are called Measure of Academic Progress or MAP. When taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. In an optimal test, a student answers approximately half the items correctly and half incorrectly. The final score is an estimate of the student’s achievement level.

To help your child, please ensure they get a good night sleep the night before and a good breakfast the morning of the test. Next week, we will be talking about what the MAP test will look like as this is their first time taking a computerized standardized test in school. After the first round of testing in the fall, we will be incorporating test taking strategies throughout the year after students have gone through the process once.
