Bully Prevention

"Bully Free: It starts with me"  There are resources on my web site about bullying.  Please talk to your child about bullying.  When bullying occurs there is the bully, the bullied and the bystander. Watch for cyber-bullying through email or texting.  October 10 is 'wear orange day', "Make it Orange, Make it end."  We will have orange paper wrist bands available for all students and staff.  Mr. Richardson and I will put together a video clip for each classroom to show during morning meeting to address bullying and give ways to prevent bullying or what to do when it happens.  We are focusing on "Gateway" behaviors.  Basically, it is using nice words not mean words like, "This is an ugly shirt" "That lunch looks gross." "We don't want you to play with us."  They will be given the questions: Is it NICE?  Is it NECESSARY? to ask themselves before they say something.  If the answer is yes, then say it.  If the answer is no, don't say it.  Keep it in your head and don't let it come out your mouth.  Students and staff will be taking surveys on bullying in November.  This helps us know where and when any bullying may be occurring. We do not see bullying as a significant problem at Glendale but we still want to be aware of it and make sure we react when it happens.  Thanks for your help in talking to your children about bully prevention.
